It can be so easy to start a story, yet so painful, so excruciating to complete it. You can blame ADHD, or lack of motivation, but that doesn’t solve the issue. I believe ideas are like water in a stream, and when they get blocked you have to dislodge them. Sometimes though the dam is a few pebbles and sometimes it’s a huge pile of logs that seem impossible to move. I remember reading that Stephen King makes sure to sit down and write a certain amount each day regardless of how he is feeling. I think this is good advice, as it keeps the momentum going. Even if you scrap the that chapter after, you still got the creative juices flowing and wrote something, which is better than nothing. Something can be built on, nothing on the other hand cannot.

What are your strategies for writer’s block?

Go for a walk, meet some people, just go do something else for awhile and there will be new insights and inspirations.

So true! A change of scenery always helps.
