Old Man Winter has arrived to my part of the world, albeit with a windy grunt and a soggy grumble.
Traditionally winter brings a sense of sleepiness and isolation, with only the embers of hope for Spring’s far-off arrival keeping us warm.
However, I think we should approach winter as a season of reflection, not as a time of desolation.

The slowness and peace of the colder months let’s us focus inwards. With less hustle and bustle to distract us, we are able to make room for our thoughts.
Instead of slamming the door on Old Man Winter, my suggestion is to welcome him in, light a cozy fire, and pour a warm cup of cider for you both. Tell him your worries, tell him your woes. He will stroke his beard as he listens to you while nodding along. Your negative thoughts will melt away like the snow off his boots as they sit by the crackling fire.

Your inner glow returns, aided by the mug of steaming hot cider you have just downed. Your frosty guest chuckles as he pushes himself out of the deep chair in which he was sat. He leaves you with a smile in-between rosy cheeks as he departs in a flurry of snow out your door.
Just as the trees see themselves in the reflection of a frozen lake, we must look inwards towards ourselves in this season of stillness. Take advantage of this time of year to heal from the inside out. Let the frenzy hibernate and trade it for the stillness of a sunny, but cold, winter’s day.
